Well this is surprising. CNN’s John King led a discussion exposing the unprecedented partisanship against Mike Pompeo as Trump’s Secretary of State nominee as opposed to previous SOS nominees under other administrations.
Watch:
Those charts are pretty amazing. Even Trump nominee Rex Tillerson had huge opposition from Democrats, when virtually every other SOS nominee for previous Republican and Democratic administrations all had minor or no opposition from their respective opposition parties.
As they point out in the segment this is all about fighting Trump, no matter how partisan or hypocritical they look.
I remember for years it’s all we heard on the news, just how bad it were for Republicans to be obstructionists. But they never were at this level. As you can see from the charts, Democrats have taken this to a whole new level of partisanship.
Right now the only Democrats who’ve signed on to voting for Pompeo’s nomination are red state Democrats Heitkamp and Manchin. However Manu Raju suggests that Joe Donnelly and a couple more Democrats may vote for Pompeo, causing him to barely skate by.
