I don’t know how anyone can escape the conclusion that the ludicrous over-the-top accusations from the alleged “witness” that Michael Avenatti tossed at Kavanaugh actually helped him gain the confirmation.
At least, that’s what Collins says when she’s specifically asked about it:
This idiot actually thought his accusations would kill the nomination and help him get the notoriety to help him run for president. Instead, everyone is blaming him for screwing it up!!
And they’re mocking him pretty badly:
Kavanaugh owes an enormous debt to @MichaelAvenatti , who may have turned the tide in his favor by diluting Ford’s compelling accusation with an implausible story.

Special thanks to @MichaelAvenatti. His work to discredit Democrats made a Kavanaugh confirmation possible.

Collins called the Swetnick allegation "outlandish" and Kennedy said "this process changed dramatically when Mr. Avenatti entered the picture." Michael Avenatti provided cover for Republicans to confirm Kavanaugh. Nice work, dude. https://t.co/yOMHyrOqPF

Look, it’s a pretty direct line here. Collins thinks Kavanaugh overplayed his hand, that he was way too acerbic in his attacks before the committee. BUT she points to those Swetnick accusations as the reason why she excuses his emotion – they were SO insane and over-the-top that she could understand why Kavanaugh was so emotional.
And that’s how we got the Supreme Court to #MAGA. Thanks creepy porn lawyer!!
