At yesterday’s briefing Trump played a video of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo praising the response of the federal government to the needs of New York during this pandemic. Below is that video:
A snarky CNN reporter named Jeremy Diamond, who seemed upset that Trump played the video, asked Trump “is this really the time for self-congratulations” when over 40,000 have died and 22 million are unemployed:
Trump explained that he wasn’t playing the video to make it about himself, but to stand up for the thousands of men and women in his administration:
“Well, I will tell you this, what I’m doing is I’m standing up for the men and women that have done such an incredible job. Not for me, for the men and women, admirals, Vice President, if I might, but all of the men and women. Thousands, tens of thousands of them that build hospitals in New York and New Jersey and all over this country in record time. They’d throw up 1000 beds in 4 days. I’m sticking up for those people. Those people have been incredible. I’m also sticking up for doctors and nurses and military doctors and nurses…”
The reporter interrupted Trump as he answered, asking him why he played a video praising him and his administration “on the day more than 40,000 Americans have now died.” That’s why Trump dug into him…
All I played today was Governor Cuomo saying very positive things about the job the federal government has done and those people – those people have been just absolutely excoriated by some of the fake news like you. You’re CNN. You’re fake news. And let me just tell you, they were excoriated by people like you that don’t know any better because you don’t have the brains you were born with. You should be praising the people that have done a good job, not doing what you do. Even that question…
Many of these reporters can’t stand that Trump defends himself and his administration and uses the White House briefing to do it. Trump has Democrats coming out of the woodwork claiming all manner of wrongdoing from him and by extension his administration, claiming he has blood on his hands and so forth. It’s absolutely not true and I like the fact that Trump is playing videos like these for the American people to hear.
