Obama is proving his assertion that he’d join the side of the Muslims if the “political winds” ever went against him. He is set to be the first U.S. President to visit a Mosque while in office.
From the Baltimore Sun:
President Barack Obama will visit a mosque in Baltimore County next week amid growing concern about hostility directed toward Muslim Americans — marking the first time Obama has visited a U.S. mosque as president.
Obama will deliver remarks on Wednesday at the Islamic Society of Baltimore, located in Catonsville, and will meet with community members there to discuss religious freedom, White House officials said Saturday.
The visit is a symbolic gesture for Obama, who toured the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta in 2010, but who has not entered a U.S. mosque as president.
Administration officials hope the visit will send a message at a time when Muslim leaders are increasingly anxious about reactions following the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino. Several crimes directed at Muslims have received national attention after the attacks.
“The president believes that one of our nation’s greatest strengths is our rich diversity,” White House spokesman Keith Maley said. “As the president has said, Muslim Americans are our friends, and neighbors; our co-workers, and sports heroes — and our men and women in uniform defending our country.”
I don’t know if this is really true – there must have been another president that visited a Mosque in our history but didn’t make a big deal out of it.
Remember Obama’s famous pronouncement:
He’s making a special trip to show how much he cares about Muslims, and yet he barely had time to make a “pit stop” in San Bernardino on his way to vacation in Hawaii for fourteen Americans who were slaughtered by Muslims.
Yeah I knew it. This is all rubbish. I asked Dana Perino, the former White House Press Secretary to George Dubya Bush, and she said that he had done it quite a few times.
I found this article at the New York Times praising him for it:
The other anniversary is of the visit President George W. Bush made to a Washington mosque just six days after the attack, where he spoke eloquently against the harassment of Arabs and Muslims living in the United States and about the need to respect Islam.
This act of leadership and statesmanship, however, has all but vanished from the national collective memory. It deserves, instead, to be noted and heeded and esteemed.
But the media is so blindly obsessed with making Obama more and more “historic” they’ll through history down the drain along with their honesty.
Feel free to tweet this article at any media figure worshipping at Obama’s feet for being the “first” U.S. president to visit a Mosque.
