BREAKING: POLICE SAY 17 DEAD IN FLORIDA SHOOTING… [updated]

This just in – two law enforcement sources say at least 15 were killed in the horrible shooting in Florida.

UPDATE 1:

CNN says 16 dead.

UPDATE 2:

Now seventeen.

UPDATE 3:

Countless magazines, an “AR-15 style” gun was used.

UPDATE 4:

This could be a big problem for school officials.

A teacher at the school told the Miami Herald that Cruz, 19, had been identified as a potential threat to fellow students in the past. Math teacher Jim Gard says he believes the school administration had sent out an email warning teachers that Cruz had made threats against other teenagers in the past and that he should not be allowed on the campus with a backpack. Another student interviewed on the scene by Channel 7 said the student had guns at home.

“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” said Gard, who said Cruz had been in his class last year. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.”

If he threatened kids and all they did was tell him not to show up with a backpack, I have a feeling there will be many lawsuits. On the other hand, we don’t know what else authorities might have done – maybe they did as much as legally possible and it wasn’t enough.

UPDATE 5:

Senator Bill Nelson is on MSNBC looking rather desiccated, but he said that the shooter wore a gas mask and had smoke grenades with him when he pulled the fire alarm that sent out kids to be killed.

UPDATE 6:

A member of “Resistance” groups on Facebook including “Syrian Resistance groups and fighter groups out of Iraq.”

This is from Fox News though, and unfortunately, they can be unreliable on this stuff, just like everyone else.

End Updates.

We have a long post documenting how the story developed on social media here.

We also have a post with everything that is so far known about the shooting suspect.

I’ll add further updates here.
