As expected, Paul Ryan easily won the vote to be re-elected Speaker of the House during the first day of the 115th session of Congress today.

Ryan won the support of all but one Republican, winning with many fewer GOP defectors than when he first won the speakership in 2015. The vast majority of Democrats voted for Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who was reelected as party leader last year despite an abortive effort among some colleagues to oust her after November’s disappointing election results.
But it’s not all rosy for Ryan – he just caved to critics and Trump himself on the GOP plan to gut the ethics rules that Nancy Pelosi had put into place. Ryan is already showing that he is going to be under Trump’s thumb while trying to legislate…
