Obviously, he was screaming “Allahu Akbar” after the shooting.
More from the Telegraph:
Russia’s ambassador to Ankara has been killed in a gun attack while visiting an art exhibition opening in the Turkish capital, television reports said.
Russia’s state news agency said Andrey Karlov had died at the scene of gunshot wounds.
Earlier it was reported Mr Karlov had been hospitalised and several other people wounded, NTV and CNN-Turk televisions said.
The attacker has been ‘neutralised,’ according to Turkish media.
The attack came after days of protests in Turkey over Russia’s role in Syria, although Moscow and Ankara are now working closely together to evacuate citizens from Aleppo.
Pictures published by the Hurriyet daily showed at least two men in suits lying flat on the ground as another man brandished a gun.
The attack happened at the Cagdas Sanatlar Merkezi, a major art exhibition hall in the Cankaya district of Ankara where most foreign embassies are located including Russia’s mission.
Incredible. Obviously, this immediately conjures up comparisons to the Archduke Ferdinand being assassinated in Bosnia, Serbia, that began the first World War.
According to CNN, what the assassin is saying is, “Allahu Akbar!! Don’t forget Syria!! Don’t forget Aleppo!! Allahu Akbar!!”

This is kinda absurd:
Ankara mayor claims assassin of Russian envoy a Gulenist and his Aleppo declaration a diversion. #Turkey https://t.co/WmSiUWtLu9
— Steve Herman (@W7VOA) December 19, 2016
“Gulenist” refers to the followers of Gulen, an exiled Turk who criticized Erdogan and resides in Pennsylvania. Erdogan has been trying to force the United States to arrest him, gift wrap him and send him to Turkey for execution. Does this mean Erdogan planned all of this to pressure the United States?! Incredible.
UPDATE: Gunman was former Turkish police officer:
Sputnick News identified the shooter as Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, a former police officer. Altıntaş, 22, was reportedly investigated as part of the July coup attempt in Turkey fired from the force.
It’s also being reported that he was fired in Erdogan’s post-coup purge:
Mevlut Mert Altintas, a former office of the Turkish police who was fired from the forces of law and order in the course of investigation of the July 15 abortive putsch, Haberturk news portal said.
This is reportedly what the shooter said (in Turkish):

I think he also said a few things in Arabic (not just Allahu Akbar). Walid Shoebat is working on the translation right now.
