Mitt Romney STANDS UP… against Justin Amash’s call for impeachment!

Those liberals who were hoping that Mitt Romney would be the Republican leader of the resistance against Trump were probably very disappointed with what he said today.

That’s because he made a principled stand AGAINST Rep. Justin Amash’s call for impeachment of Trump.

Watch below:

From Politico:

Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union,” Romney said, “My own view is that Justin Amash has reached a different conclusion than I have.

“I respect him. I think it’s a courageous statement,” the Utah Republican continued. “But I believe that to make a case for obstruction of justice, you just don’t have the elements that are evidenced in this document.”

His reasoning is interesting:

“I don’t think impeachment is the right way to go,” Romney said.

“The American people just aren’t there,” the Utah Republican said. “And I think those who are considering impeachment also have to look at the jury, which would be the Senate. The Senate is certainly not there either.”

He doesn’t say that Trump is innocent, he just says that there isn’t support in the public for it. And that’s kind of a cop out if you think Trump is guilty. But, whatever the reason, Amash won’t get support from the ostensibly anti-Trump Romney….

  1. “And that’s kind of a cop out if you think Trump is guilty. ”

I’m not really sure I get the reasoning here. Impeachment is a political solution. If the public isn’t with you, it’s kind of a non-starter. The people clamoring for impeachment either have to make a better case for it or beat Trump at the polls.

    1. some people think you should do what you think is right despite whether you face bad odds. dumb people. only happens in movies.

  2. He is copping out. You know Romney will be fore impeachment if it was possible. His numerous speeches and screeds against Trump shows he wants to go there.

    1. he absolutely wants to go there- and is no doubt very disappointing that more of the public isn’t for impeaching trump- He’d jump on the bandwagon in a heartbeat if they were. Romney is dangerous because he doesn’t stand for anything- his mood changes depending on which way the wind is blowing- He says whatever is ‘politically expedient’ at the time- He’s so two-faced he needs dual facials-

  3. Don’t be fooled by what this pigg happens to be saying today. He has it in mind to be known as the “Republican” who enabled impeachment. He’s just waiting for the right moment.

Remember, he’s so stupid he lost a presidential election to Candy Crowley. He desperately needs to make up for that by showing some phony fortitude somewhere or other–and he hates Trump as well. So he can put them together by going for impeachment at the right moment.

These shenanigans are why I think it is terrible that it has been taking so long to get the proofs of the coup out and perp walk the culprits. If it takes too long to get there, the enemy may be able to disarm the whole thing.

  4. Shock and surprise.. anti-Trump Lincoln Reagan Republican DC Est RINOcrats of a feather flock together.. whether Amash, Romney, Bush, Boehner, Ryan, McConnell, McCain, Corker, Flake, etc, they protect and defend each other and their status quo establishment deep state swamp, who ally with anti-American Democrats against their own voting base constituency.

  7. I’m not sure how anybody is taking away that Romney is standing up against Amash. He called his statement COURAGEOUS and says impeachment is NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO GO. This isn’t a principled stance, it’s a practical one. Romney would still love to see Trump gone by any means necessary, he simply wants to find a more pragmatic means of doing it.

      1. You think you can remove Trump with a primary? Show me the precedence or at least your revolutionary plan because I can’t see that going anywhere but a Joe Biden presidency.

  8. I think it’s highly likely Romney had spies in his campaign… this didn’t start in 2016, Obama was corrupt in 2012 too, and had plenty of corrupt officials to do his bidding. And I think Romney can see that what happened to Trump was about keeping power, not about Trump personally.

I don’t see how anyone can say trying to keep from getting framed is obstruction of justice, there is no justice in what the government was doing, trying to stop it was obstruction of corruption.

You find Obstruction of Corruption an impeachable offence? Shame on you.

  9. Boy, I misread the headline! I was SURE Romney sided with Amash (that’s more his style). So relieved that Romney stood against Amash on this. Or did he? Romney is a creep and a VERY political animal. So his response seems to leave all doors open imo. Typical.

  10. With Trump’s attack on the 2nd Amendment, if those were the grounds, I’d support impeachment. Too bad Republicans were too cowardly, stupid and politically correct to do this to Obama, when he infringed upon gun rights, during his regime.

    1. Zero had the ultimate get out of jail free card.

Nobody – nobody – was going to touch “impeach the first black” with a 10′ pole.

  11. “I don’t think impeachment is the right way to go,” Romney said.

“The American people just aren’t there,” the Utah Republican said.

That’s pretty much my reason against it. It’s just too destructive in an already irreparably fractured and barely holding-together society.

If that means I have to ignore a few things that are reasonable to considered impeachable – well, so be it. Had to do it with the last guy too. Donald, for all his progressivism and failings and idiocy, hasn’t crossed the Rubicon.

    Yet.

The answer to all this isn’t impeachment, folks. You’ve heard me say it over and over. The solution is that we need to become a better, more responsible, principled and courageous electorate. So long as people to continue to allow themselves to be controlled by Washington with this binary choice crap – we’re just going to keep doing this dance forever.

  12. I had to stop listening. Jake Tapper would never ask the kind of questions to a Democrat that he did of Romney. For one thing, he kept trying to get Romney to criticize Trump. Not a Romney fan but he did a good job not falling into Jake’s trap. Guess he learned something from 2012.
