Beto O’Rourke must be getting desperate because now he’s lying about illegal aliens in order to get sympathy from people for some reason.
The Dallas News slapped him down for it:
It was a powerful anecdote. At the first Senate debate, Rep. Beto O’Rourke illustrated the plight of “Dreamers” by talking about the salutatorian at tiny Booker High School in the Texas Panhandle, recently deported to his country of origin, not even speaking the language.
The congressman had embellished what he’d been told on a visit to Booker 14 months ago. And even that version, it turns out, got key facts wrong.
The honor student in question was actually the valedictorian.
Oops.. but even worse, it turns out the immigrant wasn’t deported at all!
Here’s what he said:
There are nearly 200,000 in the state of Texas, and the salutatorian from Booker High School had just been deported back to his country of origin, and everyone there was concerned about his welfare. But they were also concerned about the fact that he’d just been sent back to a country whose language he didn’t speak, where he no longer had family connections. Where if he was successful against those long odds, he’d be successful for that place and not here for Texas.”
When the newspaper found her, she told them she wasn’t deported, she left in order to complete the process of applying for permanent residency.
But “I did have to leave the country,” she said. “My appointment was in Juarez, Mexico. I was not deported. It wasn’t like a deportation. But I had to leave in order to get my permanent residency.”
“It’s just really the immigration process. That’s how it is. I could still go to college without being naturalized. They don’t deny you college. But you can’t get a job. You can’t work … so I was trying to get residency. And when my appointment came up, it was in Mexico,” she said.
Geez – remember that he was slapped down also for LYING about running away from his DUI. He got four pinocchios for that one. I bet they won’t even grade this one because Dems get a free pass from the media…
