During Trump’s press conference the other day he looked up at the sky and claimed “I am the chosen one”, referring to how he’s the president taking on China when it should have been done a long time ago. Here’s the video:
Now I understand that the broader context of this was Trump’s tweets from that morning, quoting a radio host who essentially called him the “King of Israel” and the “Second coming of God”. And of course the media went wild after he joked about being the chosen one, saying he had a ‘Messiah complex’.
Trump responded to the ‘fake news media’ a few minutes ago, pushing back on their claims:

It was more than clear to me just from listening to it live that he was joking, and I had criticized him that morning for his earlier tweets. I’m quite sure the journalists who were there knew it too, just as he says in his tweets.
It’s pathetic the way they seize on ever little jest to attack him, even when it’s just a harmless joke. He’s right, “no more trust!”
