Wow. Not only did Chris Matthews retire from his show tonight, but he did it at the very beginning of the show and it appeared to be a surprise to everyone.
Chris Matthews announces — on a Monday — he’s retiring and that today’s “Hardball” will be the last.

"After my conversation with NBC, I decided tonight will be my last Hardball. I’ll tell you why. The younger generations are ready to take the reigns." pic.twitter.com/Y3HV9Qy35l
That is a stunner. Steve Kornacki replaced him at the end of the first commercial, and he was in tears and appeared to be surprised it happened.
Just recently, Matthews was accused of sexually harassing female guests on his show. We posted about it here, and we noted how he was actually hitting on Erin Burnett in between their shows, on air!!
He also was severely criticized after he compared the Bernie supporters to the commies who were trying to take over America in the fifties and shoot people like Matthews!!
I have to say I’m sad to see him go. We disagreed on nearly everything, but he seemed like a decent guy, and he was honest about being an old school liberal, especially when it was in conflict with the rabid new progressive liberals. So long, good sir.
